FAR 61.56 Flight Review
Apr 15, 2023In order to maintain your eligibility to act as Pilot in Command, per 61.56(c) you must complete a flight review every 24 calendar months. A flight review must be at least one hour of ground training and one hour of flight training with an authorized instructor. It must consist of a review of general operating and flight rules of part 91, and a review of maneuvers and procedures at the discretion of the person giving the review that are necessary to demonstrate the safe exercise of the privileges of the pilot certificate 61.56(a)(1&2). Upon successful completion of a Flight Review, you will be given a logbook endorsement showing that you have completed the flight review.
There are some times when a flight review would not be required. According to 61.56(d), a flight review is not required if:
- a pilot proficiency check or practical test for a pilot certificate, rating or operating privilege.
- A person within the 24 preceding calendar months has accomplished one or more phases of an FAA-sponsored pilot proficiency award program.
